Protecting the Legacy of Obama: The Impact of the Media

sharyl-attkissonSharyl Attkisson posts this and quotes a story from NY Magazine.  Here is the relevant portion (bold mine):

That October, Myers couldn’t get Williams to air a segment about how the White House knew as far back as 2010 that some people would lose their insurance policies under Obamacare. Frustrated, Myers posted the article on NBC’s website, where it immediately went viral. Williams relented and ran it the next night. “He didn’t want to put stories on the air that would be divisive,” a senior NBC journalist told me. According to a source, Myers wrote a series of scathing memos to then–NBC senior vice-president Antoine Sanfuentes documenting how Williams suppressed her stories.

I have been reading Attkisson’s stories for the past several months that document her struggles with CBS to attempt to get investigative reporting on the air.  The major networks all deny that there is some bias, and even today, some journalists will look you square in the eye and deny it when you know they have their fingers crossed behind their backs. NY Times Editorial Board: Republicans Assault On Immigration

Oh, poor baby!

NY Times Editorial Board is mad Judge thinks Obama should follow the rules.

The NY Times Editorial Board opined on the Federal Judge that halted Obama’s Amnesty.  In its attempt to paint the Judge as an opponent of President Obama, the hit piece does little more than run cover for the President by repeating the same arguments that the Judge made in his ruling as if somehow, the Judge did not understand the issue. Obamacare: The Clock Ticks Towards More Pain

Open Enrollment ScreenIn an article from the Associated Press:

Three senior House members told The Associated Press that they plan to strongly urge the administration to grant a special sign-up opportunity for uninsured taxpayers who will be facing fines under the law for the first time this year.

The three are Michigan’s Sander Levin, the ranking Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee, and Democratic Reps. Jim McDermott of Washington, and Lloyd Doggett of Texas. All worked to help steer Obama’s law through rancorous congressional debates from 2009-2010.

The lawmakers say they are concerned that many of their constituents will find out about the penalties after it’s already too late for them to sign up for coverage, since open enrollment ended Sunday.

That means they could wind up uninsured for another year, only to owe substantially higher fines in 2016. The fines are collected through the income tax system.

A Bit of Unintended Irony…

Brian Williams of NBC Nightly NewsIn this article about the future of Brian Williams, this paragraph stood out to me..

Some critics suggest that Williams, who apologized last week for falsely claiming that he was in a helicopter that had been hit by a grenade while in Iraq in 2003, should be fired. Others wonder if commerce will win out, since Williams has kept “Nightly News” at the top of the ratings while much of his news division crumbled around him. How much are the years of good work worth?

I assume his high ratings are because of his storytelling instead of telling the story?

Brian Williams: Tales of Courage in Combat

Brian Williams is the anchor for NBC Nightly News for over 10 years.  He is an award winning journalist and anchor who has a great reputation among his peers.  However, it seems, that during a mission in Iraq where he was aboard a US Army helicopter embedded with the troops, he somehow got confused about his helicopter being shot at by an RPG and AK-47, even claiming to be hit and forced down.
