It is perfectly legal for airline companies to overbook a flight. Airlines do it routinely to maximize revenue.

Fun Fact of the Day
Dr. Mary Edwards Walker was the only woman in US history to earn the Congressional Medal of Honor. She was awarded the honor in 1865 after General William Sherman and General H. Thomas recommended her for it. President Lincoln had signed her testimonial.
Later in 1917, she was stripped of the award due to lack of evidence to support her eligibility to be awarded.

More than two thousand years ago, the Babylonians were able to calculate that there were 38 possible eclipses or syzygys within a period of 223 months: that is, about 18 years. This period of 223 months is called a Saros cycle by modern astronomers, and a sequence of eclipses separated by a Saros cycle constitutes a Saros series.
