I so wish the time could be left as a stand-alone memorial to the fallen, and give some space for heartfelt prayer.
Instead it became the unofficial beginning of vacation season, sales on every damned thing, and a convenient three-day weekend.
The ghosts of those men are not impressed with how you are spending your freedom and liberty. They have neither here on earth.

I don’t know if you remember when we went into Iraq after 9-11, the nation was wildly pro-America with flags everywhere and “USA! USA! USA!” being shouted all over. Well two weeks later, America was at war, but the average citizen was at the mall shopping and could not give a red rat’s butt.
As an aside, those three young ladies surely make me feel even more patriotic than I already am…as a US Marine Vietnam veteran.
