This is CNN.
The term of a member of the House of Representatives is 2 years. Pelosi is up for re-election the same as Trump. While the Speaker of the House is third in line of succession, if the election were postponed to the next year, Pelosi would also be out of a job. In this scenario, succession would fall to Chuck Grassley who is the current President Pro Tempe of the US Senate. Sorry Chris, but this isn’t all that hard.
I don’t think we’ll have to worry about this situation, but it’s clear some people are spending a lot of time thinking about the worst case scenario. It doesn’t help if the one analyzing has Trump Derangement Syndrome. It has shown to affect critical thinking skills, especially when it comes to civics.
This is our media today – highly infected of TDS and no sign they are in the downward trajectory.
CNN is full of talking heads who have never evidently read our Constitution and have no clue how our government works.

They’re amazed that governors actually have powers.

It’s not obvious that Chuck Grassley would be Pro Tem. Whether there is an election or not, whatever Senators are still in office on January could meet and begin their new session, I think, since they would have a quorum. 23 GOP current seats and 12 current Dem seats are up for election. So, with no election there would be 30 GOP and 35 Dem Senators. If they open the session then the Dems could name one of their own Pro Tem. OTOH, the GOP could refuse to meet and deny a quorum. And actually, a quorum might be merely a majority of actual Senators, in which case the Dems could open the session. The Senate Rules are known to be very arcane.
I kind of assume, but am not familiar enough with the actual Senate Rules, that in the latter case Grassley would still be Pro Tem, but I don’t know that for sure.
I do know that Cillizza is a highly paid moron.
