Virginia Democrats can’t see irony.
Virginia’s congressional delegation wants to make a change the state’s choices for the National Statuary Hall collection.
From The Hill:
Reps. Jennifer Wexton and A. Donald McEachin both requested that Gov. Ralph Northam (D) prioritize removing Lee as the state’s representative in the Capitol in his 2020 legislative session. The representatives said there are “countless” other choices to represent Virginia.
Later, they go on to say:
“As Virginians, we have a responsibility to not only learn from but also confront our history,” they wrote in their letter. “As part of this responsibility, we must strive for a more complete telling of history by raising up the voices, stories, and memories of minorities and people of color.”
The politicians said Lee was chosen between 1900 and 1930, when other Confederate monuments were created across the country.
Let me see if I understand this: These representatives want to remove the statue General Robert E. Lee, a historical figure who symbolizes Virginia’s racist history…
.. still has a Governor who was in blackface that democrats say is racist.
Like I’ve said before, I’m all for Democrats removing the monuments of their horrific past. However, I’m not sure that removing statues of state historical figures removes the stains from history. Have you ever seen the Democrat party come out en masse and apologize to black Americans for their part in slavery and the KKK?
Hard to do when they wont abandon their own racist acts and beliefs.
