Senate Democrats are all up in arms about AG Barr’s characterization of Obama administration surveillance of the Trump campaign.
From the article:
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) accused Barr of “perpetuating conspiracy theories” during his testimony before the Senate Appropriations subcommittee. The hearing was scheduled to discuss the department’s budget but ultimately was dominated by questions about special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.
“AG Barr must retract his statement immediately or produce specific evidence to back it up,” Schumer said in a tweet.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, added in a statement that Barr had “demanded himself” by “carelessly acting as a mouthpiece for President Trump’s conspiracy theories.”
One thing about conspiracy theories is that they stay that way until there is proof. The Democrats exerted enormous energy peddling a Russian collusion conspiracy without evidence. When Mueller popped that balloon, Barr wants to ask the question on whether the predicate existed in the first place – a well reasoned position considering the lack of evidence to support the original outrage.
Of course, Democrats can’t have that. This has the potential of impacting independents who often sway swing states that might keep Trump in power in 2020. So yeah, they are not happy.
Unless Barr knows the “Moon Walk”, I say he keeps moving forward.
