Today’s news on the guilty plea and subsequent plea deal of former advisor and retired Lt. General Michael Flynn has caused liberals to cheer and many have already started looking at new curtains and upholstery for the White House.

The liberals believe this plea proves beyond all doubt that Trump not only colluded with the Russians, but the major details will show it’s been Putin-Trump all along! Flynn becoming a turncoat only proves the truth is not far behind.

Except, there is a teensy little problem.

In the Statement of Offense, Flynn admitted to lying about his contacts regarding a directive from Trump’s transition team to communicate with foreign ambassadors about Egypt’s December 21, 2016  resolution before the UN Security Council involving Israeli settlements.

During the January 24 voluntary interview, FLYNN made additional false statements about calls he made to Russia and several other countries regarding a resolution submitted by Egypt to the United Nations Security Council on December 21, 2016. Specifically FLYNN falsely stated that he only asked the countries’ positions on the vote, and the he did not request that any of the countries take any particular action on the resolution. FLYNN also falsely stated that the Russian Ambassador never described to him Russia’s response to FLYNN’s request regarding the resolution.

All of the acts claimed in criminal complaint, and the ones in the Statement of Offense related the criminal complaint, occurred after the election.  But liberals are focusing on the directive given to Flynn by the top advisors that points to collusion. One outlet is reporting that Jared Kushner was the one giving the orders.

Even if that were true, that’s not a crime.  According to the document, Flynn was to also make calls to other countries, presumably to other members of the Security Council.

Flynn resigned a few weeks after Trump was sworn in.  It was shortly after his interview with the FBI had taken place and probably makes sense when you realize he may have discussed what he said in the interview.

The most obvious failure is that Flynn didn’t have to lie. Had he chosen to be truthful, there would have been no consequences. Clearly, the political climate with all the buzz about Russian collusion may have played into his thinking, but even so, as a military officer, he should have been more true to the values of honor and integrity.

The other way to look at it is that Flynn will now be an asset to the Russian investigation that has, surprisingly, shown no evidence of any collusion. If you’re a liberal, this can only bode well for the chances of having Trump removed from office, and at a minimum, boost the chances of a blue wave in the midterms to help towards that end.

Of course, once all they hype has died down and people start to realize just how little this helps the liberal narrative, we’ll go back to more important things like how Congress managed to create a sexual harassment slush fund for its members.
