It seems as though disasters in American cities are all connected by something..
You do realize that fires, hurricanes, rains, and other devastating events have happened long before human civilization took hold, right?
The only connection is that these things happen on Earth and we, as people, are building our cities in places where the likelihood of human tragedy is higher.
Fires have been a part of the region longer than humanity. It’s a desert that happens to get rain because it’s on a coast — so stuff grows, then dries out, then becomes tinder.

it’s like she doesn’t understand that hurricanes are an annual threat, if not reality on the continental United States. Nor does she understand that portions of the San Fernando Valley (and elsewhere in southern Commiefornia) are on fire EVERY YEAR!! Gah. Do media folks undergo a lobotomy as a prerequisite for their jobs? Although, that would explain a lot.

It is common knowledge that the SAT and ACT scores of journalism and communications majors [the major most common for journos and on air ‘talent’] average lower than any major beside education.
I.e. they don’t really need lobotomies.
P.S. A very dear friend who was a fine journalist and went on to teach journalism and communications in a fine university said the the intellectual capacity of his students declined every year. I asked how he managed to not retire earlier than he did. His answer was, “Alcohol. Lots of alcohol.”
He only originally went into teaching so he could have more time to care for his ill wife, It may have given her 3-4 more good years. They both deserved them.

TBH, the education majors I knew always worked a helluva lot harder than the communications majors I knew.

After a cold, wet spring and a hot start to summer, the local (southern Oregon) fire people were predicting an ugly fire season. Unexpectedly (!!!eleventy1!1!), they were right. Amazing that. /sarc

The lack of rain in the West is totally global warming as is the mega-assload of rain in Houston. See? Connected!

Apparently, wildfires really only matter when you can see them from an overcrowded freeway.

Yep, that 143,000 acre fire in SW Oregon sure is insignificant compared to a 6000 acre fire in Lss Angelos.
Don’t get me started on the fact that it happened in the burn scar of a 500,000 acre fire from 2002. The environmentalists fought tooth and nail to prevent any salvage logging, and that leftover fuel is what’s burning.
