A physicist faced with a fine for running a stop sign has proved his innocence by publishing a mathematical paper, and has even won a prize for his efforts.

Yeah, but I know a physics MS who is a high school physics teacher. He went through all the math, a car going at the speed limit toward a green light takes this much time and distance to stop, based on published specs from the manufacturer and typical published human reaction times. The yellow light was timed too short (for revenue of course).
The judge just looked at him and said “Red means stop. Obey the law.” and wouldn’t hear of it.
This guy must have gotten an unusually smart and honest judge.
