New research says there is no such thing as a “male brain” or a “female brain”. Instead, men and women’s brains are an unpredictable mishmash of malelike and femalelike features.
Hmm, having spent six decades dealing with men and women on a daily basis, this statement seems obvious, but incomplete.
Brain features clearly occupy a continuum, from completely female to completely male. The median value for females is toward the female end, the median value for males is towards the male end, and there are individuals, male and female, all along the spectrum.
Two of my best female friends, one in her 30s, and one in her 50s, are quite definitely female, both in appearance (yowza!) and outlook, but both are definite “tomboys”, always up for “male” activities, be it a bachelor party, building a shed, or a trip to the gun range.
