  1. And if you can’t tell they’re that old, you need to find someone to show you how to tell! No one can buy freah fruti and vegetables in a hurry. It never works out right.
    I prefer Framer’s Markets even if their produce is not so pretty as the supermarket brands. –BJ54

  2. We stored apples and root crops (potatoes, turnips, beets carrots), cabbage (the share that wasn’t made into kraut), celery, and some other stuff in root cellars right up into the early 60s. We also dried other fruit like cherries, peaches, apricots and stored them in the root cellar. And we canned a lot of fruit as well and made jams and jellies. I miss the social aspect and sometimes the tastes, but not the work.
    Well, we still make kraut, and I don’t mind that work because no commercial kraut tastes right.
