This article from Fox News…
Key things from this article:
“We’re killing a lot of them, and we’re going to keep killing more of them. … But we cannot win this war by killing them,” department spokeswoman Marie Harf said on MSNBC’s “Hardball.” “We need … to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs, whether –“
Aside from the idea that she posits about not being able to win the war by killing them (General Patton would like to have a word with you), apparently Marie has never been overseas, nor does she have a great understanding of the political situation there. I do find it amusing that she talks about opportunity for jobs, then says this:
But Harf said: “If we can help countries work at the root causes of this — what makes these 17-year-old kids pick up an AK-47 instead of trying to start a business?”
The irony here is that there hardly any 17-year-olds in the US are starting businesses, and mainly because it is hindered greatly with cost prohibitive regulations, even for 21-year-olds. And this is not the reason why kids over there can’t start businesses. Perhaps, maybe, she could read up a little more on what’s going on? I hear there are people in her department that may have some knowledge.
