Sunday Blessings

Angel

I have two pets, a dog named Mason and a cat named Spaz.  My daughter named him Lucky, but I call him Spaz because he flips out randomly.  He’s rather skittish so it makes  moments of unplanned entertainment.

Last night, I had one of those random headaches that borders on a migraine. It doesn’t incapacitate me, just makes me feel miserable.  I don’t like to take medications so when these headaches get to the point I’m more than annoyed, I will take some pills for relief.

When Spaz wants attention, he literally forces himself on me. I can’t tell you how many times he’s jumped on the desk when I’m on a skype meeting and bat at the microphone on my headset or just lay in front of the keyboard. While lying in bed, he likes to sit next to my head and either lick my hair or bat me on the nose. It wouldn’t be so bad if he wouldn’t extend his claws.

For whatever reason, pets recognize when you’re not feeling well.  Last night, he decided to just lay next to me.  I stroked his back and side and he just purred.  It was a nice he chose not to engage in his usual antics.  The pain was slowly subsiding before I fell asleep.

This morning, I awoke and he was still there. He must’ve sensed I was feeling better and proceeded to sit next to my head and bat me on the nose.  Gotta love ’em.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

      • Everyone knows cats are really only appropriate for stir-fry.

While we only have dogs now, we used to have cats as well. I can testify that cats can be as varied as dogs in personality traits. We’ve had lovely ones that were friendly and excellent lap sleepers. And we had ones that would ambush you from dark corners and attack your ankles.

Because pets don’t have the unreliable distraction of speech to communicate, they rely much more on other indicators of your state of well being, such as smell. I had an ear infection for a while – every dog I greeted made a point of taking a good sniff of that ear – never the other one. They really can tell when we are feeling bad (and the cats may choose such a time as that to attack and eat your left arm).
